The Dojo

The literal translation of "Dojo" is place of the way. The dojo is a place where the body, mind, and spirit are shaped and polished so that the student will be transformed into an entirely new person. The dojo is a place where individuals seek to uncover that which is hidden deep inside them through intense and dedicated practice. In the traditional Judo Dojo, you will find a sense of camaraderie, fellowship, and community that is not found in many places today. The only competition you will find is with yourself, because our main objective is to make ourselves and each other better.

At the heart of traditional arts of Judo and Ju-Jitsu are the principles of peace, harmony, and respect for others. Sensei Velazquez actively promotes the concepts of friendship, cooperation and learning amongst his students. One of the primary goals of training at the DJJA is the perfection of character. Learning self control is of the utmost importance in learning self-defense. Sensei Velazquez stresses that students must learn to work effectively with a variety of partners to advance in their studies.

DJJA Dojo Kun (Principles)
